Music: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Torture Me - Stadium Arcadium
Mood: Hot
It's 11:40 PM and 82 degrees outside.
I am becoming increasingly enlightened by the books Mr. McConaghy recommended to me. In particular, Joseph Campbell's Reader has become an inseperable compainion that helps me through the listless evenings.
During my lunch break today I started mapping out my December vacation. There are a litany of cities that I want to visit while I am abroad and roaming Europe. The best solution would be to either get a EuroPass or buy cheap tickets on RyanAir. I am going to travel from LA to Marseilles to stay with George for a few days, and then if he wants to tag along with me, I am planning on hitting Madrid, Barcelona, Istanbul, Athens, Florence, and Rome. I will have about 2 and a half to 3 weeks worth of time to explore, and I want to make sure that I spend every minute doing something exciting. I get excited just thinking about it.
Radiohead on Friday. Recording all weekend. Work on Monday. Recording on the 4th. Fun times to ensue.
Be on the lookout for the Prime website. I believe the domain is going to be ThinkPrime.com. More on that later. We will have samples of the tracks up there too, so you can get a taste of what we have to offer. I am really proud of our musicial progression in the past year and a half, but am also equally excited to finish this album so that I can put this catalog of tracks to bed and start writing brand new material.
I love the way John Frusciante layers his backing vocals on the track Torture Me. Particularly in the last minute, after the solo, he does an amazing job of putting his part together, so seamlessly blending together Kedis and his voices, it's phenominal. I get a rush everytime I hear this song.
New obsession: the Discovery channel/the History channel. They are the best things to ever happen to boredom. Nothing quite like lounging on a Saturday afternoon and watching documentaries about various cultural events. I like to think they teach me something, otherwise, it's a complete waste of time and I need to find a new hobby.
The World Cup has been fantastic so far.

Music: Rodrigo y Gabriela - Tamacun - Rodrigo y Gabriela
Mood: Tangy
Do yourself a favor, and download Rodrigo y Gabriela's self-titled debut. It will seriously blow the doors of perception away and leave a trail of instrumental bliss in it's wake. I think you just have to trust me on this. If you care about the music and could do without the yapping, try it. Even if you prefer singing, take a gander at what these two have to offer. It's really awe inspiring in the way that a Sigur Ros album builds to a climax, so do every one of these songs.
Cheers.

Two weeks into my illustrious career at Merrill Lynch, and I get paid. Yes, paycheck one was gathered yesterday morning, which was promptly parlaid into a new guitar. I am the proud owner of a Fender American Vintage 1962 Stratocaster. I'd write more, but it would be useless, because its one of those things that needs to be heard and not described for total comprehension.
We watched the first twenty minutes of the Germay and Costa Rica opening round match at the office yesterday. It was fun and exciting, and a worthwhile distraction from the ever-evaporating stock market that seems to be under the control of an inflationary vice grip. My job is really quite enjoyable thus far, even if there's so much information that I don't understand.
I despise artists that preach. I hate songs that tell me what I should feel or how I should think. There's no place in music for political subjectivity. And yet, it seems everywhere you look, another famous artist is staking a claim in the sand, dispeling notions and generally making a large fuss about issues that have no affect on their bank account.
Back to my original point. I think its terrible when an artist goes out of their way to write a song about the paranoid imperfections of society. First, I don't care. If someone has an issue with the way the world looks through their eyes, then they need to fucking fix it. It's as simple and concise as that. Don't draw the process out and write songs and try and convince others that they need as much help as you do. Don't plant the seed in their minds that they can be just as confused and delusional as you. And for fucks sake, stop acting like you're misunderstood and in pain that both humanity and mother earth aren't progressing at the rate you so desire. Please. If you cared one fucking iota about this planet you would stop making contrived music and creating these hapless albums, replete with booklets, stripped from trees, of worthless factoids, and discs of aluminum that become obsolote and do not decompose, and join fucking GreenPeace. Make a real difference, as opposed to the fictional impact you have.
And just to clarify, I am not talking about Radiohead.
Go England!

Well, this completes my first week on the job. I have to say that thus far, it has been an amazing experience. While waking up at 5:30 is not my strong suit, I surprised myself by making it a go every morning, without hesitation. I just hope I can keep that same resolve alive and not get into too much trouble next week. It's a very fast-paced environment and clearly a competitive landscape, but I am up for the challenge. I will write more tomorrow because I am falling asleep at the keyboard after 20 cumulative hours of sleep over the past 5 days, which is a stark contrast from the plush lifestyle of 12 hours a day I had become so accustomed to.
