Music: The Album Leaf - The Light - Into the Blue Again
Mood: Strange
Both the Romans and Greeks of ancient lore dedicated their lives to the pursuit of education with intense zeal and passion. Philosophers were at one time the quintessential example of understanding the essence of the self. The whole conception of divulging into a subject to grasp every corner of information, to ascertain every morsel of worth before exhausting oneself and turning the page, were everyday occurrences for Socrates and Galileo. These men sought something larger, that could not be defined in writing or manifested in physical forms. They aimed themselves at Enlightenment, and fought hard to embrace its source.
Yet everyone knows that Philosophy has been scored throughout generations as being poisonous; a cancer that plagues society and the philosopher for the duration of their livelihood. Imbibed within the concept of philosophy is an intrinsic paradox that lends itself to religious and scientific roots, which in essence invalidates the philosophic perspective. For a human being, who is admittedly flawed, to seek an understanding of oneself by extending themselves ‘outward’- that is to detach from oneself to submit an unbiased evaluation of one’s soul and self-worth- is the equivalent of trying to build a house with sand and water. We are imperfect individuals that are working towards mending our broken parts, but have lost sight of the fact that we cannot fix ourselves with tools that our outdated and even obsolete.
Furthermore, we are adaptive creatures that cannot help but suffer from our susceptibility to embrace our environments for face-value. That is, we are constantly searching for validation and taking cues from those around us- our sense of values, interests, passions, desires, and feelings are taken from us, molded into shape, and given back to distribute and project as our individual self-image. What humanity spawned within our sub-societies via mainstream channels and pop-culture phenomenon’s has destroyed the lingering innocence of individuality. We are no longer unique for our thoughts because we have conjured them on our own terms, rather, we have developed cognitive abilities to act and respond to our environments. Lamens terms- nothing you or I do today is what we have sought to complete, rather, we are acting and moving in a direction that has been stimulated by our environment.
Choices have always existed. Today you woke up and decided to brush your teeth, put on the blue shirt and gray pants, tie your shoelaces before opting to eat a bagel and leave for work. You will always have the ability to make selections within your daily affairs. But if you take a moment to consider that perhaps mankind was not destined to seek complacency, but rather, our higher purpose was to “unbalance the equation”. Maybe our existence is not modified by our selections, but our choices and “spontaneous decisions” were intended to occur—everything we are has been decided in advance. Science can tell us that we arose from single-celled amoebas while religion can preach about Creationism until the Pope is blue in the face. But how can we discern truth in a world that seems so very tainted—as if it no longer belongs to us?

Mood: Pensive
It's been five years, and the memories of that day are still so vivid in my mind. It's hard to forget the atrocities of the past, but sometimes, its even harder to move on.
We take solace in solidarity, and our commitment to rebuilding the ruins. And not once do we, as a nation, forget the scars of that day. That memorable day when the world stopped spinning, and angels fell from the sky.
